THE line-up for the Skylive airshow 2017 has been announced - with a Eurofighter typhoon, Spitfire, Lancaster and aerobatics displays all on offer.

The second Skylive show to be held at Durham Tees Valley Airport, will take place on May 27 and includes a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and troupe of poppy-decorated planes to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

Last year's inaugural event attracted a crowd of about 18,000 people and included the Red Arrows and the Falcons parachute display team, which returns this year.

Chris Petty, of Skylive events, said he was "hugely encouraged" by the positive feedback he received from last year's show.

He added: "We are excited to announce our line up for this years Skylive Airshow 2017.

"We have always had a long term plan and have mentioned from the very start that bringing this airshow back after 26 years wasn't a one off and that we would build it bigger and better each year.

"I think you will agree looking at the line up of this years airshow we have definitely achieved that."

His ambition is to ensure the airshow is established as one of the area's top events.

In the air this year will be the Eurofighter Typhoon, Spitfire, a North American T-6 Texan, a Loach – or light observation helicopter – a Lancaster and a Hurricane.

The Huey Helicopter – used to transport troops and equipment during the Vietnam War, as well as limited support and attack missions – will also be in the air.

And 29-year-old aerobatic display pilot Lauren Richardson will be displaying in her biplane at low-level, along with the Global Stars flying in formation in front of the crowd.

A Boeing Chinook will be in the air, and a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight involving an Avro Lancaster, a Supermarine Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane, will be performing an aerial display.

Wingwalkers will be performing acrobatics and handstands while strapped to biplanes and the Bronco Demo Team, based near the former World War 1 battlefields, will perform demonstrations with its new "poppy" livery.

And the popular Falcons parachute display team, based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, will be returning to the show, along with a British Army ground display.

There will also be a fun fair, live music and a food village at the show.
