COUNCILLORS have confirmed a £5 increase in council tax for the sprawling Hambleton area of North Yorkshire.

Members of the district council have approved the rise – which will bring the annual charge for a Band D property to £99.48 from April this year.

However the authority stressed it still retains its status as one of the lowest charging councils in the country – and the lowest in North Yorkshire.

The increase will mean a Band D property will be charged £99.48 a year for the Hambleton portion of the council tax bill.

When charges from North Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and parishes are added to the figure, the annual Band D bill will be £1,616.79.
