STUDENTS have been raising cash for healthy hearts after putting their own hearts on the line for Valentine's Day.

Saint Francis Xavier School head girl Laura Bradby, 16, decided to organise a fundraising event to coincide with Valentine's Day – and thought the British Heart Foundation was a good charity match for the occasion.

She set up a rose delivery service so students at the Richmond school could buy a rose with the donation going to BHF, and then have it anonymously delivered to their would-be Valentines.

Miss Bradby said: "I had the idea of doing a charity week and this seemed like a good idea to start on. I announced it in assembly and everyone seemed really excited about it, people were talking about it quite a lot.

"We had four groups of us on the day giving out the roses in class which was really fun. Some were bought for teachers as a joke and I think some teachers sent some too. We didn't know who they were from but the rumours all started flying around as I think some people wanted it to be known they had sent one.

"We raised around £100 for BHF which is fantastic, it was a really successful day."
