ROTARIANS have donated almost £6,000 to make sure local people get enough to eat.

Malton and Norton Rotary Club has donated the cash to the Ryedale Foodbank after a series of events following concerns by members about the number of local people needing help.

Rotarian John Dobson said: “We were very concerned after discussions with Ryedale Foodbank as to the number of families needing food and the real difficulty which some of them face in feeding themselves and their families.

“I put to the club the need to support this very worthwhile charity in the Ryedale area and was moved at the strength of the support.

“There was an unanimous decision of the club to give the money which came from a wide range of events.”

He added: “The club is always keen to support local charities like this as well as giving support to international appeals.

“Rotary works hard to raise funds during the year to allow us to make donations like this.”
