TWELVE dogs are hoping to find their forever homes during this festive season after spending their Christmas in kennels.

Puppies and dogs of all ages, breeds and personalities are currently being cared for at Dogs Trust Darlington’s Sadberge site after being made homeless in the region.

Every one of the featured festive pooches are available for re-homing to the right family for them in the hope to find a permanent owner in the New Year.

Sue Embleton, rehoming centre manager, Dogs Trust Darlington said: “Giving a dog a home can be one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.

“However, it is a decision that families often make without thinking about the long-term commitment, care and responsibility of owning a dog.

“Every year Dogs Trust receive thousands of calls from families who have purchased a puppy and want to give it up after the festive period, which is a tradition we don’t want to see continue.”

Ms Embleton added: “We would ask that anyone thinking about getting a dog to consider adopting from Dogs Trust because, as well as having lots of special dogs who are in desperate need of a loving home, our staff also have a wealth of experience and resources that will help families make this decision for the right reasons.”

Anyone interested in adopting any one of the twelve dogs can visit them are their temporary Dogs Trust Darlington home at Hill House Farm, Sadberge.

A Dogs Trust Darlington spokesman said: “Dogs need time to settle into a new home and bond with their owner so it is best to choose a quiet time in your life when you can dedicate spare time to doing this.”

The centre is open between Fridays until Tuesdays, between 12pm and 4pm, and re-opens between 12pm and 7.30pm on Thursdays.
