SCHOOLCHILDREN got their elf on to support the Alzheimer’s Society charity yesterday.

Pupils at Staindrop CofE Primary School, in Staindrop, Teesdale, took part in the charity’s national Elf Day campaign which is officially held across the country today.

Everything from elf jumpers to hats, bells and stripey tights were part of the colourful costumes worn by teachers and pupils in a bid to raise money for the charity which helps people living with the condition.

Year 6 class teacher, Lesley Davidson, said all of the school’s 174 pupils had pulled out all the stops for the charity day which was organised by the Year 5 and 6 pupils as part of their Young Church Leaders Award.

Along with wearing an elf or Christmas jumper, the children threw themselves into the fun day with extra activities.

“It was really good and they got everyone on board especially with their extra little fundraisers and it was so nice to see everyone having fun and getting on board,” Ms Davidson said. “Everyone has really got into the spirit of it.”

Ms Davidson said the little helpers were also sponsored by their parents to do extra s-elfless tasks at home which included jobs like walking the dog or emptying the dishwasher.

“They have been getting sponsored for their good elfy deeds and some of them were really impressive,” she added.

All funds raised will go towards making sure people living with dementia stay connected especially during the festive period.
