A SCHEME which provides emergency food parcels for those who would otherwise have to go hungry is closing for one day for the first time in more than three years.

Hambleton FoodShare usually operates on a Monday, handing out parcels from the Zion Church hall in Northallerton.

But this month Boxing Day falls on a Monday, when it will have to close, so potential users are being asked to think ahead.

“We are urging anyone facing temporary financial crisis this Christmas to make sure they come for a parcel, a week early on December 19,” said co-ordinator Margaret Brice.

“And thanks to generous donations, we are also able to add a few Christmas treats to each parcel this year.”

Anyone who receives their vouchers through partner agencies are also advised to go along on December 19.
