VOLUNTEERS are needed for a scheme to help children in care.
Darlington Borough Council and children’s rights charity, the National Youth Advocacy Service, are looking for voluntary “independent visitors” to meet a child once a month to spend time with them away from the care system. The adult is separate from their carers and provides consistency even if the child is moved to a different home.
Councillor Cyndi Hughes, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added: “Being an Independent Visitor gives those in care an opportunity to go out to enjoy activities and interests with someone who is separate from their everyday life and who they know they can trust.
“We need more people to take on this role. There are huge benefits, for both the young person and the volunteer, and I’d encourage anyone who thinks they may be interested to get in touch to find out more.” To find out more: email amanda.martin@nyas.net.
