COMEDIAN Joel Dommett is currently roughing it in an Australian jungle, battling it out along with a team of other minor celebrities to take part in horrific trials involving all manner of bugs and snakes in exchange for food.

And despite arguably being one of the lesser known 'celebrities' to enter this year's I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here, hosted by Ant and Dec on ITV, newly announced dates for Dommett's new tour are selling fast.

Dommett's tour takes him around the UK – but he so far has just one date announced for the North East and North Yorkshire, and has chosen the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond.

The comedian is one of the remaining contestants in the sixteenth series of the ITV show, watched nightly by more than 10 million viewers, and will be bringing his solo show Joel Dommett: LIVE to the Georgian Theatre Royal on Saturday, May 20.

Dommett is one of a growing number of stand-up comedians favouring the intimate nature of the venue – and more than 80 tickets for the performance have already sold for the gig, prompting the theatre to urge local residents to get in quick if they want to see the show.

“We are delighted to be hosting this event at our historic theatre,” said theatre chief executive Clare Allen. “He is one of the UK’s most energetic and exciting young comedians and, of course, he has become a household name in recent weeks with his engaging performance in the jungle.

Dommett came onto the comedy scene in 2007 and was the face of MTV in 2012.

He received great critical acclaim for his Edinburgh Fringe shows, and has been crowned five-time winner of the Comedy Café Competition.

He has gone on to appear in television shows including Impractical Jokers (BBC3), Reality Bites (ITV2), and Russell Howard's Good News (BBC). The date has been released ahead of the theatre’s main spring and summer season and demand for tickets is expected to be exceptional. Tickets cost £15, or £10 for concessions, and are available from the box office on 01748-825252 or georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk.
