SOME of the sumptuous costumes that featured in the hit BBC period drama Wolf Hall have gone on display in the region’s tourism capital

The six costumes are now on show at Barley Hall, off Stonegate in York.

Based on the international bestseller by Hilary Mantel, Wolf Hall told the story of the rise of Thomas Cromwell, a blacksmith’s son who became the right hand man to some of the most powerful men in England.

The book, which won the Man Booker Prize in 2009, was turned into a period drama for BBC Two in 2015, and became a major ratings hit for the channel.

Barley Hall site manager Paul Ruxton said: “We are thrilled that Barley Hall is playing host to six of the most beautiful costumes from Wolf Hall.

“Our ‘Power and Glory’ exhibition already explores the complex relationships at Henry VIII’s court, as well as his only visit to the city in 1541, so these elegant Tudor costumes will feel right at home.”

Visitors will be able to see the costumes worn by the actors who played Thomas Cromwell, Anne Boleyn and Katherine of Aragon.

The exhibition, Wolf Hall Comes to York, will run at Barley Hall until the end of March next year.
