TEACHER Paul Chapman and student Ewan Harrison have completed a series of events to raise funds for a centre providing life-changing opportunities for disabled young people and a North Yorkshire special school.

The pair from Mowbray School, in Bedale, completed three junior events at The Great North Run, coming third in the wheelchair-only race and running the 4km race in just under 29 minutes and a 21km race in around three hours.

Mr Chapman then went on to run the 13-mile Great North Run with a team from Bendrigg Lodge, in Kendal, an outdoor centre for people with additional needs.

The teacher said he was overwhelmed by the many people who supported them.

He said: “From people at the side of the road to the ones sat in pubs that didn’t expect a runner turning up with a bucket to the finisher I congratulated who then turned round, caught me up and handed me a £20 note. One young boy came back three times with handfuls of change. “

They have raised £475 so far, donations can be given through justgiving.com/Paul-Ewan
