PEOPLE are invited to step out for a range of short walks, as part of a free nationwide walking event.

Hambleton Strollers has organised a timetable of six short walks led by its volunteer leaders as part of the Ramblers' biggest ever nationwide event.

Walk About takes place from Saturday, September 3 until Sunday, September 11.

The first walk takes place from the Discovery Centre at Great Ayton on September 5, from 10.15am and will last approximately an hour.

Other walks are planned throughout the week from Northallerton, Carlton, Stokesley, Thirsk and Bedale.

Hambleton Strollers is part of Walking for Health, England’s largest network of health walk schemes, run by Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support. Walking for Health aims to provide everyone with access to short, free and friendly walks within easy reach of where they live, helping them to become and stay active.

Stroller’s scheme coordinator, Paul Fisher said: “We all know walking can do wonders for our health and wellbeing, which is why we want to get people in Hambleton on their feet with the Ramblers' biggest free walking festival to date.

“Our walks around Hambleton are perfect for anyone wanting to take their first steps into walking. All our one hour walks are over flat ground and designed for the first timers. Our leaders will support you no even if you think you will be too slow.”

The Ramblers has also launched a free online tracker that allows people to log their walking activity.
