MORE than 80 women from across the region turned for afternoon tea in aid of Butterwick Hospice.
The event at Whitworth Hall, in Spennymoor, raised more than £1,000 for the charity in Bishop Auckland.
Guest speaker Maeve Nattress wore a period costume to portray the history of both Whitworth Hall and to tell the tale of Bonnie Bobbie Shafto, who died in 1797 and is buried in the Shafto family crypt beneath the floor of Whitworth Church.
Guests at the event were able to browse ladies fashions and arts and crafts and also sample the delights from the award-winning Teesdale Cheesemakers.
Fundraiser Beryl Anderson said she was overwhelmed with the support and generosity shown.
