THE National Farmers Union launched an interactive, digital map at the Great Yorkshire Show which pin points where its members are producing real British dairy ice cream.

Designed to connect the public with local dairy ice cream producers, it also tells the story behind each producer.

Tom Rawson, NFU dairy board vice chairman, who farms in Yorkshire, said: "With the market volatility that is now the norm in the UK and throughout the global dairy industry, it’s good to highlight how some farmers have decided to add value to milk on farm.

"We recognised that many of our dairy farmer members produce ice cream so we thought it would be a great idea to create a map to show exactly where the public can go and buy it.

"Real dairy ice cream, made with British milk, has a great taste and a creamy texture. Nothing beats it particularly on a hot, sunny, summer’s afternoon. It has all the competition licked."

More producers will be added to the map throughout the summer.

Brymor ice cream from Jervaulx, near Masham, attended the launch and gave away free samples

from some of the 40 flavours they produce using milk from their herd of Guernsey cows.

Other local producers on the map include Wheelbirks at Stocksfield, Northumberland, and Yorvale at Acaster Malbis, near York.
