THE organisers of a biennial competition which aims to inspire excellence in the design of buildings in the North York Moors National Park are appealing for nominations.

The park authority said it was seeking entries in categories for the best new dwelling, best extension or alteration to an existing dwelling, best conversion and best non-residential building completed within the last five years.

Entrants will be assessed over buildings’ appearance, landscaping, sustainability and design quality, as well as its overall contribution to the landscape setting of the national park.

An authority spokesman said: “During these austere times the authority believes it is important to celebrate instances where applicants and developers have still paid attention to the finer details to achieve exemplary schemes which help to shape the communities of the future.

Previous winners include the affordable housing development Westfields in Osmotherley and Crag House Farm, Danby Head.

The closing date for entries is August 2. For details, visit northyorkmoors.org.uk
