A DENTIST is marking her 20th anniversary in the profession by seeing how many 20 pence pieces she can collect for a charity while cycling 20 miles a day for 20 days.
Sarah Glover, of Birdgate Dental Practice, Pickering said she was undertaking the challenge in North Yorkshire for Antibiotic Research UK, partly to raise awareness of the importance of using antibiotics appropriately and the need to develop new antibiotics against resistant infections.
She said: "Without antibiotics everyone will be affected in some way either directly or indirectly. Antibiotic Research UK is a charity which sets out clear aims and objectives of how it will use the money effectively."
Professor Colin Garner, the charity’s chief executive, said: "It is thanks to Sarah and people like her raising money for us, that we have been able to embark on our first research programme to find new antibiotics. "Alongside our mission of professional and public education about antibiotic resistance and helping affected patients, we hope to make a real difference."
