POPULAR Dales jazz band Swale Valley Stompers raised almost £2,400 for charity when they took to the Wensleydale Railway on the annual Jazz and Real Ale Train.

The band entertained the crowds with the music starting on the platform at Leeming Bar before the train left for Redmire at 7.30pm.

The train returned at 10pm, and the service included a bar with guests enjoying their own picnics.

The band took to the Wensleydale Railway to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager, Hayley Cooke, said:“Thank you to all the performers, attendees and the local community for supporting this event. With more people living with cancer than ever before, the need for our work is constantly growing.

"This annual event was a huge success and ensure that we can be there for more people affected by cancer”

Jazz man Peter Edmonds said: “Last year we raised an impressive £1,800 for local people affected by cancer, and had a fantastic evening of fun, music and food in the process.

“This year’s Jazz Train was another great success."
