A GRANDMOTHER says she is attracting stares of astonishment after launching a portable ice-cream business on a Mexican tricycle.

Tracy Spence said she has received an amazing reaction from residents and visitors to Northallerton, including chairman of Hambleton District Council, Councillor John Noone, while pedalling locally-made ice-cream from her home in Forest Road to the High Street.

Mrs Spence said her dream of starting the Creamdale Ice-cream business was realised after she was made redundant last year, when he laser technician's job for a Masham firm moved to Stanley.

She said she had the tricycle shipped from Mexico and had found it surprisingly easy to ride while carrying her stock.

Mrs Spence said: “I wanted to offer an exciting attraction for tourists and locals to visit in Northallerton.

"Everyone's been really impressed, it's a real storyteller and I've already got customers who keep coming back. My five-year-old grandson Brody is so proud of his nana and wants to come and help.

“Everything is locally sourced which is a very important part of the business. Bust so far we have received excellent support from the local community, especially from Hambleton District Council and Northallerton Town Council.”
