A STAND-up comedian travelling penniless from Land’s End to Edinburgh to raise money for Shelter is to give a concert in Bedale.

Damien Kingsley is travelling the country on his Knock Knock tour, and plans to perform 120 gigs anywhere he can raise a bit of money and find a place to rest his head.

When the team at the Chantry Hall in Bedale heard about his plans they offered him the stage at the church hall on June 24.

Hall spokesman Catherine Megson said: “When we were approached about Damien we just wanted to help.

“It’s such an important charity and Damien is doing an incredible job offering comedy in return for food and shelter and the chance to raise money for this important cause.”

Mr Kingsley has already made £13,000 and is now halfway to Edinburgh.

He said:” I’m as worried as I am excited about the tour, but my experience will be no more than a small insight into what homeless people go through every day of their lives. The whole point is to raise money for Shelter, so there will be a collection at the end of each gig.”
