THE region’s first dedicated dog cafe has opened in Stockton. The Wags & Whiskers canine cafe is the brainchild of dog lover Carl Shepherdson, who two years ago started a campaign in the town to allow four-legged friends into more shops and eateries in the town.
And after finding the perfect premises on Finkle Street, he has now fulfilled his dream of opening a cafe for pooches, where they can sup on zero-alcohol dog beer and enjoy doggy Shepherd’s Pie while their owner relaxes with a panini and a coffee.
Mr Shepherdson, who already runs a specialised shop for dog owners, Wags & Whiskers pet boutique in the town, said he believed the cafe was only the fourth of its kind in the UK - but dog cafes were already huge in the US and Japan.
From herbal teas to freshen dog breath, to pet ice creams and doggy afternoon tea, the cafe has a special menu for dogs, and a separate one for humans.
