YOUNGSTERS are putting their imaginations to work – with the help of building materials donated by a local developer.

Dens, a mini-beast hotel and a planting area are just some of the things that children at Sowerby primary school have created with materials given by Mulberry Homes Yorkshire.

The school approached the developer to see if could spare materials from a nearby development known as the Oaks so it could create a new children’s garden.

And Mulberry and its contractor, Moody Construction, sent bricks, pallets, wood and other materials– and they have proven so popular that they are now preparing to make a second delivery.

Head teacher Keeley Ungerechts said: “The children really look forward to break and lunch-time to they can get outside and play in the new garden.

“The materials donated by Mulberry are being used to create dens, hides, houses and even a mini-bug hotel.

“Both boys and girls are using the garden and whilst, on the surface, they may think it’s all about having fun, there is a serious educational side to it as it encouraging them to work together as a team, how to measure, and being creative.”

Mulberry Homes sales adviser Melanie Powls said: “We have forged an excellent relationship with the school since we started building homes at Sowerby, and some of the children now live in the homes.”
