A TEESDALE teacher is hoping to help others in the profession after writing a practical guide based on his experience.

Green Lane CE Primary School teacher, Alec Lees, has written The Daily Sentence Structures which teaches pupils to use a range of sentence structures in their own writing, whatever their ability.

Mr Lees, who has been teaching for 20 years and at the Barnard Castle school for 16, said each of the 15 minute sessions build on each other to help students create imaginative and interesting writing in as little as six weeks.

The year six teacher said he decided to write the book about a year ago after new Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) tests were introduced by the government.

“The systematic approach appeals especially to boys as it appeals to their logic in being able to create an ‘instant paragraph’,” he said.

“All pupils' confidence and self-esteem will increase leading to better results across all subjects.”

The book is now available from Brilliant Publications, priced at £17.99.
