SWIMMING teachers in Thirsk have got an extra aid to help them with their coaching.

All 13 teachers from Thirsk White Horse Swim Team have been provided with two reference books – The Swimming Drill Book and Total Immersion, which will be used alongside teacher training, both on poolside and in the classroom to further the knowledge of all the club’s teachers, who are all volunteers.

The club, based at Thirsk and Sowerby Leisure Centre, received a grant from Hambleton District Council's small grant scheme to help them increase the level of teaching and coaching.

“Our head coach is seeking to improve the knowledge and understanding of the sport, of all the club’s teachers,” said Anne Norton, chairman of the club.

“This should improve their confidence and allow them to continue the improvement of our swimmers.

"The provision of the books and extra training will fulfil part of this plan. The long term plan of the club is to coach more swimmers to county and regional level, and retain more swimmers into their teens. In this way, we hope to maintain a thriving and successful swimming club into the future.”
