A COMMUNITY arts centre will host summer activities inspired by children’s writer, Roald Dahl, to mark his 100th birthday.

The Witham, in Barnard Castle, will stage a Summer of Stories throughout the summer holidays and has already teamed up with partners such as The Bowes Museum and The Castle Players.

The venue hopes a town map to guide people around the Roald Dahl inspired props will give locals and visitors alike the chance to enjoy exciting experiences throughout Teesdale.

The Witham team are welcoming as many local people, organisations and community groups to get involved, from schools and shopkeepers to businesses and volunteers.

Sarah Gent, Arts Marketing Manager at The Witham said: “We are really excited about working with local partners and people to make the Summer of Stories inspired by Roald Dahl a hugely fun and interactive experience throughout the town.

“As an emerging arts centre, we know people visit The Witham for concerts, comedy, films, theatre and art exhibitions. The Summer of Stories inspired by Roald Dahl is a fantastic opportunity to enhance this – not only selling tickets but also creating an immersive and interactive space for all to enjoy.

“And also heading out The Witham doors and into the town as a whole, drawing people from near and far to experience our creative Roald Dahl inspired happenings!

“I’d like to send a huge thank you to those partners already on board – the level of enthusiasm in reaction to the Summer of Stories has been inspirational.”
