THE FAMILY of a seriously ill Darlington boy are urging people to support them in their fundraising efforts.

Seven-year-old Mitchell Tinkler suffers from the rare disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a serious condition causing progressive muscle weakness.

The Abbey Junior School pupil is one of around 100 boys born in the UK each year with the condition, for which there is currently no cure.

Since he was diagnosed, his family have embarked upon a series of fundraising events and will hold another this weekend in aid of their Muscles for Mitchell campaign.

The campaign, launched to increase awareness and raise funds for registered Duchenne charity Harrison’s Fund, has raised around £20,000 since its inception.

Mitchell’s mother, Kate Tinkler, hopes this weekend’s table-top sale will boost the fundraising total.

She said: “At present there’s no effective treatment for the condition and we’re raising money to fund research into potential new treatments that will hopefully benefit Mitchell in the future.”

The sale will take place at 9, Ravensdale Road on Saturday, April 30 from 11am until 2pm.
