TOURIST information providers in Northallerton now have information available at their fingertips.
Volunteers at the town’s Tourist Information Centre have been provided with iPads, printers and web training.
The move has been made possible by a grant from Hambleton District Council’s Small Grant Scheme.
It means the volunteers can easily access information such as bus timetables, train times, details of local accommodation, opening times and costs of local attractions to help deal with the enquiries.
“Over the years the way people access information has changed,” said Vivien Cragg of Northallerton TIC.
“With less leaflets and booklets being produced and more information only available through the internet we have been struggling to provide up to date information for visitors and the local community without access to the internet.”
She added: “We receive over 5,000 enquiries per year – 70 per cent from tourists and 30 per cent from residents - and being able to use the internet and iPads to help them is a real boost for us and helps us showcase everything that Hambleton has to offer.”
The TIC is open Monday and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays from10am to 4pm
