A CHARITY which provides emergency food parcels for people who would otherwise go hungry has expanded into Bedale and the surrounding villages.

Northallerton-based Hambleton Foodshare has launched a satellite scheme to operate in the area using a dedicated telephone service to provide an immediate response to anyone in need of a three-day food parcel.

The expansion has been made possible with the help of storage facilities made available by St Gregory’s Church.

“Clients can self-refer in the first instance but must be supported by a referral agency for subsequent food parcels,” said co-ordinator, Margaret Brice.

“If you or someone you know is in serious difficulty and urgently needs a food parcel they should ring 07930-988360 and one of our dedicated volunteers will arrange a parcel. Should further help be needed the team will explain how this can be provided.

“We want to make sure food gets to those who are in need and would like to hear from anyone willing be an additional donation point, or who has ideas of how to raise funds locally enabling us to keep this service expanding to meet the need”.

Donations of tinned and packaged food can be left at collection points in Bedale at the Co-op and Food 2 Go at Aiskew garage, as well as local churches.
