THE TOP share of a sought-after grant has been awarded to Darlington.

A £3,000 portion of Unity Trust Bank’s Development Fund was granted to Darlington Credit Union (DCU), to buy new computers.

DCU is one of just 11 unions across Great Britain to land funding.

Selina Tsang, executive assistant at Darlington Credit Union said: “This is fantastic news as it fits with the whole modernisation programme for Darlington Credit Union.

“With our new premises at 41 Tubwell Row and a new banking platform in early 2016 the computers were an integral piece of the jigsaw.

“It will enable us, in 2016, to offer our members the very best in services and products. These are exciting times for Darlington Credit Union.”

More than 50 credit unions applied for a share of the £25,000 available and grants were made of £900 to £3,000.

Darrin Nightingale, from Unity Trust Bank, said: “Congratulations to Darlington Credit Union on their success in the Credit Union Development Fund.

“The project which the grant will support is instrumental in helping Darlington Credit Union to create financial inclusion and social impact in its local community."

The town’s credit union has reported back-to-back record months for share deposits, loans approved and new members since moving to new premises.
