HARTLEPOOL UNITED are one of three clubs in the Football League to be revealed as not paying a single penny in agents’ fees over the last year.

The League Two club, along with Bury and Accrington Stanley, had a policy under previous owners Increased Oil Recovery not to spend anything to players’ advisors and that appears to have continued under the new chairmanship of Gary Coxall.

The Football League have published the list of agents fees for the period October 1, 2014, to September 30, 2015, on the same day as it was confirmed Newcastle United and Sunderland continue to commit millions in that area.

Newcastle United were the eighth highest spenders on agents with a figure of £5.946m paid out, which is an increase of more than £2m from the previous year’s number.

Sunderland – knocking around £1.8m off last year’s number - are the fifth lowest spenders on fees in the top-flight after paying out £3.404m.

And in the Championship Middlesbrough, who were busy in the summer by adding the likes of Stewart Downing and David Nugent to their ranks, only paid out £850,285 to agents according to information provided by the Football Association.

Nationally Liverpool spent the largest share (£14.3m) of a total Premier League spend of £129.86m to agents. Manchester United’s fees nearly doubled to just under £14m and Arsenal’s almost tripled to £12m.

Cardiff City were the biggest contributor to agents’ fees in the Football League by spending £2.828m of the division’s £26.124m cumulative total.
