THE UK'S best groomed man turned football presenter took part in fundraising match to send a six-year-old cancer sufferer to Disneyland.

Father-of-three Les Langley, named Britain’s Best Groomed Man in 2013, now presents the North East Football Show.

This Thursday's (Nov 19) episode covers the Darlington Charity Cup, a football competition which contributed to a holiday fund sending a brain cancer sufferer to Disneyland.

Six-year-old Mason Campion, from Hunwick, County Durham, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer which was found in his brain in 2012 and has since spread to his spine. He has had 17 operations, eight of which were brain surgery.

The Campion family and supporters have raised more than £2,000 to send Mason to Disneyland next month, to which the Darlington Charity Cup donated a further £500 cheque.

Mr Langley said: "It was absolutely awful to hear about the sick children. I found it really hard especially because I have got three young children myself. I was given a folder listing the children and their illnesses and it was one of the worst things I have ever read.".

The Charity Cup, organised by Brian Scaife and Roger Bradley, raises money for sick children every year and last year fundraised for the charity Muscles for Mitchell, to help six-year-old Mitchell Tinkler who suffers from a rare muscular condition.

The Cup, dating back to 1907, has also supported the Rainbow Trust and Zoe's Place Baby Hospice in the past.

After the football competition at Ashington last Friday, filming continued at Woodham Golf Club, Darlington.

Mr Langley, who interviewed the managers and one of the ex-professional footballers there, said: "If I was asked to present anything other than football I would probably be a nervous wreck.

"The fact that it’s about football means I know what I’m talking about and can quite happily hold a conversation with professional footballers and know I'm not making a fool of myself ."

The Darlington dad, who admits he now gets recognised in the street, said his family are uninterested by his new-found fame.

"My mother will watch the show every week from Sunderland but my children aren’t interested in the slightest. It’ll come on the TV and I will say 'have you seen this?' They might look up for a second and then they’ll leave the room."

The latest episode of the North East Football Show - co-presented with professional dancer Anthony Rutherford - will screen this Thursday at 9.30pm on the Made for Tyne and Wear channel – 117 on Sky and available on Freeview.
