A THEATRE company is preparing to pave the streets of Northallerton gold with its rags to riches tale of Dick Whittington for a special Christmas pantomime at the town hall.

The production, by professional theatre company AJ Productions, features a dragon voiced by Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne and will take to the stage on December 16. It will draw to a close on January 2.

Among the cast are young people from AJ Production’s academy, which has stage schools in Northallerton and Middlesbrough for children who enjoy musical theatre, film making and street dance.

The production company collaborates with schools from across North Yorkshire and Tees Valley to deliver anti-bullying and mental health awareness workshops and regularly runs classes for drama enthusiasts with learning difficulties.

Jacqueline Turnbull, director at AJ Productions, said: “We’ve all been working hard in rehearsals and are looking forward to getting the show on the road. It’s full of extravagant costumes, humour and will be a great way for everyone to get into the festive spirit that comes with Christmas and New Year.

“Northallerton Town Hall is an excellent venue and performing there will be a proud

moment for us all, especially the youngsters from AJ Academy – some of whom will be taking to the big stage for the first time.”
