A NEW £500,000 restaurant opened in central Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Oven, which has created 45 jobs, has made an impact on Linthorpe Road with an outside seating area carpeted with astro turf and featuring handcrafted chairs and tables.

Located at Central Point, it can seat 160 diners and offers dishes featuring English, French, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours. It claims to offer Michelin star-style food at affordable prices.

Oven is owned by Tarek Thoma, who once cooked for US president George Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair when he worked at the Dun Cow in Sedgefield. All the restaurant’s chefs have been trained by professional cooks, who hold a Michelin star rating.

Geoff Hogg, regeneration entrepreneur and owner of Linthorpe Developments who developed Central Point, was so impressed with the concept of Oven that he invested in the business.

Mr Thoma said: "My staff and I are looking forward to welcoming guests to Oven and serving them with Michelin star-style food at very affordable prices."
