NORTH-EAST youngster Joe Clark picked up a couple of good victories as he represented England at the Hungarian Junior & Cadet Table Tennis Open.

The 15-year-old Billingham player appeared in singles and doubles in both the junior and cadet sections, and the highlight was a 3-0 victory over Romania's George Vrabie in the qualifying groups for the junior singles.

However, a 3-0 defeat to Rodrigo Cano of Spain and a 3-1 reverse at the hands of Sweden’s Filip Karlsson meant he was unable to qualify for the knockout stage.

Karlsson was again his nemesis in the junior doubles, as Northfield School student Clark and partner Alex Ramsden lost to Karlsson & Jimmy Jansson of Sweden 3-1.

In the cadet singles qualifying groups, it was a similar story to the juniors as Clark beat Todor Skeledzija of Serbia 3-0 but was defeated 3-0 by Sweden’s Martin Friis and 3-1 by David Rozsa of Hungary.

In the cadet doubles, Clark and Ramsden had the misfortune to draw second seeds Aoto Asazu of Japan and France’s Bilal Hamache in the last 32 and were beaten 3-0.
