A MICHELIN starred restaurant near Darlington has developed a taste for success after featuring in a prestigious top 100 restaurant list.

After coming 26th last year, the Raby Hunt in the hamlet of Summerhouse broke into the top 20 of The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants supplement, which will be released on Sunday, November 8.

Raby Hunt, run by former professional golfer James Close, was the North East’s only representative in the supplement.

Serving dishes such as the Vallum Farm salad, the restaurant was praised by diners for its “clever and delicious” tasting menus, and its “ethos of showing off local ingredients to their best effect”.

Three restaurants in North Yorkshire also made the cut in the prestigious line-up.

The Yorke Arms in Ramsgill in Nidderdale featured on the list for the sixth consecutive year as did the Black Swan in Oldstead which is helmed by 26-year-old head chef Tommy Banks.

Yorkshire’s third entry was The Box Tree in Ilkley. The restaurant, which originally opened in 1962, serves classic French cuisine, with signature dishes such as Waterford Farm fillet of beef, fricassee of wild mushrooms, and roast foie gras.

The list was compiled by The Sunday Times in association with Harden’s. Now in its sixth annual edition, it was based on 63,000 reviews from almost 7,000 diners.
