Gateshead 1 Worcester City 2

Gateshead were humbled in the FA Cup, losing 2-1 at home to Worcester City from the division below them.

Last season the Heed enjoyed a good Cup run which only ended with a defeat at Premier League West Brom.

But two goals by Deon Burton dumped out the Tynesiders, for whom Ryan Bowman had equalised.

Manager Malcolm Crosby told the club’s official website: “It’s very disappointing to go out but even more disappointing to see the way we played.

“We didn’t play well at all, and the supporters have been fantastic since I’ve been here but they’re quite right to have a moan at me about that performance.

“It was very, very poor. I can’t put my finger on it in terms of why we are so nervous when we play at home at the moment.”

Teenage goalkeeper Shaun MacDonald made his debut after Sam Russell was injured in the warm-up, and Crosby added: “It could have been a lot more had it not been for Shaun MacDonald. They are saying to me they are not nervous, but they are.

“They’ve trained really well this week, and then they’ve gone out there and haven’t had a sprint in them in the first-half.”
