A HOSPICE in its 30th year has marked the anniversary with a pearl celebration that has raised thousands of pounds to support its pioneering work.

Hundreds of supporters celebrated with staff and volunteers of St Teresa's Hospice, Darlington, at a Champagne and Pearls Ball, held at Hardwick Hall Hotel, near Sedgefield.

A bespoke pearl necklace specially created for the event was one of the major prizes available during the evening, along with an auction that raised £1,500 and a raffle with a prize for every £10 ticket sold. In total, the ball raised more than £15,000.

After a three-course dinner, guests were treated to entertainment from Graffiti Voices and The Dean Solomon Band.

Hospice chief executive Jane Bradshaw said: "Our Champagne and Pearls Ball kicked off our 30th year in some style. We are immensely grateful for the very generous support of everyone who came and our sponsors. Our guests really dug deep and their generosity helped us raise this fantastic amount."
