AWARD-WINNING choreographer and former Strictly Come Dancing judge, Arlene Phillips, visited a newly-built retirement development for afternoon tea recently.

The well-known dancer paid a visit to Ryebeck Court, a retirement development in Pickering.

Ms Phillips was given a guided tour of the new apartments and met with homeowners and their guests. She then joined them for afternoon tea and wine and some guests had the chance to pick up some dancing tips.

The 72-year-old recently became an ambassador for McCarthy and Stone to launch a study of more than 2,500 retirees, The Colour Report. The study aims to break down negative stereotypes of the older generation by highlighting the colourful and varied lifestyles of retirees today.

She will be visiting McCarthy and Stone developments across the UK this autumn, hosting tea dances, question and answer sessions and dancing lessons.

“As an ambassador for The Colour Report I know that retirees today are redefining what it means to grow old," she said.

“We are independent, active individuals who are seeking new experiences and fulfilling lifelong ambitions, no matter what our age.

“The homeowners at Ryebeck Court are no different and having met the staff and seen what a bustling community they have there, I just know they’ll enjoy every minute of their retirement.”

The development contains 41 one and two bedroom apartments and gardens on Eastgate.
