A MOTHER is raising awareness of a rare condition which resulted in her daughter starting puberty at just two-years-old.

Charlie Denton, from Brompton, Northallerton, is holding a fundraising children’s disco tomorrow (Friday, October 9) to raise money and awareness of a charity which has supported her family.

Her three-year-old daughter was diagnosed with precocious puberty five months ago. The rare condition is believed to be caused by a malfunction of the pituitary gland and is controlled by regular hormone injections.

Now Ms Denton is trying to raise awareness of the condition and the charity which has supported them, the Child Growth Foundation (CGF) with a disco to raise funds for the charity. CGF focuses on children’s growth and endocrine issues.

Ms Denton said the condition is still very rare.

"It took us 18 months to get a diagnosis," she said.

"Just after her second birthday I took her to the doctors as she had started developing breasts.

“I had never heard of this condition until we got our diagnosis. It was a really a great, big shock.

“It’s rare. Because my daughter is only three she doesn’t really know anything different. She has injections every 12 weeks to suppress the hormones and they will stop when she’s ten or 11.”

The disco will be held at Ainderby Social Club in Romanby from 6.30pm until 9pm.
