GUESTS including Richmond MP Rishi Sunak and the new Bishop of Richmond, the Venerable Paul Slater helped mark the official reopening of one of the biggest community venues in the Dales.

The Chantry Hall at Bedale has undergone a £25,000 revamp. To highlight the reopening, tables at the event all had a special theme to promote the different potential uses, including a wedding table, 18th birthday, Golden Wedding and christening.

One of the organisers Catherine Megson said: "It was a really special night to mark the reopening of the hall. All the guests were very complimentary about the refurbishment. We want to ensure the hall is a real centre for the community, for social, business, and leisure events, as well as promoting our many charity events and concerts.

“This is one of the biggest and best centres in the Dales and we want people to use it and take it to their hearts. It is well used and we want to make it more widely available so people in Bedale and beyond use it."

Catering for the evening was provided by Bedale Golf Club and the bar by Hemelvaart Bier Café.
