ALAN WHITE has been handed a four-match ban following his sending-off last Saturday and Darlington are waiting to hear if the Football Association will take any further action.

The 39-year-old defender saw red after the full-time whistle for shoving assistant referee Asa McDonough.

Referee Will Finnie showed White a red card, for which he receives a three-game suspension, and he also received a caution during the game to take him up to five for the season.

That triggered a one-game ban, so he will miss four games in total plus any further punishment that the FA feels necessary in recognition of pushing a match official.

White showed contrition yesterday for his actions, using social media to apologise for his dismissal on Saturday, which was his third of the calendar year in Darlington colours.

“I’d like to apologise to everyone associated with DFC, staff and fans, for my ill discipline on Saturday. It may be too little too late, but I’ll be making a concerted effort to improve this aspect of my game and if given a second opportunity redeem myself to everyone at the club.”

His suspension begins on October 17 when Darlington are at home to Stourbridge, which will be the final game of fellow defender’s Chris Hunter’s suspension.

The bans to two of Darlington’s first-choice defenders will leave Quakers light on defenders, especially if transfer-listed Ian Watson is permitted to leave in the meantime.

Quakers’ Durham Challenge Cup tie with West Auckland on Tuesday, October 27 has been switched to Darlington Road due to Bishop Auckland also being drawn to play at Heritage Park on the same evening.

The game means Darlington’s league match at Frickley Athletic scheduled for the same evening must be rearranged.

There has been no announcement yet from West Auckland to state how much they intend to charge for admission.

Meanwhile, Darlington supporters are being invited to a reunion of former Quakers players to the launch of a book celebrating the club’s six promotion campaigns.

Darlo’s On The Up, by Ray Simpson, will be released next month and already around 40 former and current players have agreed to attend the event at the Dolphin Centre.

Among those who have indicated that they will attend to meet up again with their former teammates and fans are Craig Liddle, Gary Coatsworth, Les McJannet, Kevan Smith, John Peverell, Gary Gill, Mick Tait, David Hodgson, Neil Maddison, Craig Hignett, Andy Collett, Jim Platt, Jamie Chandler, Sam Russell, Mark Barnard, Steve Gaughan, Neil Wainwright, Phil Brumwell and Gary Brown.

More former players are hoped to confirm their attendance at the book launch, which takes place on Sunday, November 8 at 2pm in the Dolphin Centre’s Central Hall.

Admission is free with tickets available in advance from Quaker Retail from Thursday, October 15, but fans can still turn up on the day without tickets. All proceeds from the book are going to the club.

n Darlo’s On The Up, priced £12, is an account of the last six successful promotion campaigns (1966, 1985, 1990, 1991, 2013, 2015) which are relived using the memories of players, fans and officials who were involved at the time, and also using contemporary match reports and interviews from the archives.
