COUNCILLORS have been recommended to approve plans to extend a shop in Darlington.
An application by Mohammed Saduddin has been submitted to Darlington Borough Council for a single storey extension to the rear of his shop on Gladstone Street.
The 2.5m high extension will fill the property’s rear yard, which is situated in Thornton Street.
At their last meeting, members of the council's planning applications committee had deferred making a decision on the site to allow members to visit the shop, as concerns had been raised from nearby residents over litter, extra noise and deliveries, as well as a loss of sunlight to the back yard of 5 Thornton Street.
Residents also said they had experienced problems with a bin being kept in the back alley behind the shop, which, they claim, would get worse should the extension go ahead.
As a result, the application has been amended to include a bin store accessed by a roller door.
The committee will meet at 1.30pm on Wednesday (September 30) at the town hall.
Members of the public are welcome.
