RESIDENTS are being urged to get sexual health MOTs at one of the new one-stop-shop clinics set up to improve access to treatment for infections.

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has issued the call as part of Sexual Health Week, weeks after launching an integrated sexual health service across North Yorkshire on behalf of the county council.

An advantage of the YorSexualHealth service is the introduction of clinics providing contraception, STI tests and treatments for all ages, meaning in most cases people are able to have all their sexual health needs met by one practitioner without the need for onward referral.

The scheme has seem the introduction of a centre at the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, alongside additional community clinics at GP surgeries in Leyburn, Thirsk and Catterick and a dedicated military service at Catterick Garrison.

Tina Ramsey, YorSexualHealth clinical services manager, said: “The launch of the new YorSexualHealth service is great news for local residents and sexual health awareness week provides the perfect opportunity for people to come and get checked out at one of our new local services.

“The theme of this year’s Sexual Health Week explores how a happy, healthy sex life can play a key role in our overall health and wellbeing. Yet for many people, sexual pleasure remains a source of embarrassment or shame.

“Our clinics are accessible and convenient and our staff friendly and approachable.

"You can speak to them confidentiality, there is really nothing to feel embarrassed about."

A central booking phone line means all sexual health and contraception appointments can be made by a single number.
