A CHORUS of heavenly voices soared to the rafters of a historic Darlington church this weekend.
Saturday night saw Darlington’s ancient St Cuthbert’s Church host a concert in a bid to boost restoration funds.
Compered by The Northern Echo’s editor, Peter Barron, the event saw the Northern Voices choir join the Darlington Operatic Society in performing an eclectic programme of classical and contemporary music.
Under the direction of Gillian and Stephen Sild and building on the choral traditions of the North of England, Northern Voices paid homage to composers including Handel and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Darlington OS gave voice to a number of songs from West End musicals including Wicked and Miss Saigon.
The OS also performed a medley made up of tracks from Disney musicals while Glyn Bigham, Alanna Baguley and Andrew Hamilton all gave solo performances.
The choral concert was staged as part of the National Heritage Awareness Day celebrations with funds raised going towards the upkeep of the church.
