PUNK ROCKERS from across the country are coming together to perform at a charity gig organised by a Darlington cancer survivor.

Brian Alderson, 53, was diagnosed with bowel and lymph node cancer in 2012, battling through six months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment before he entered remission.

Now he is organising an event that will see 11 bands – including The Warriors, from London; Arch Rivals, from Plymouth and Boots n All, from Bristol – come to Darlington in the name of raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This is the second year that Mr Alderson has organised the gig, after the success of his Punk Rock Charity Bash (Part One) last September.

He said: “It was brilliant last year, and we managed to raise over £3,000.

“Tickets are selling well and we’re hoping to raise even more this year.”

Other acts include No Frills and Kickback Generation, who performed at last year’s event, and punk and ‘oi sounds’ DJ Kingboy-D, while there will be a raffle and auction – and a tattooist for attendees who wish to take away a more permanent souvenir.

Mr Alderson added: “People tend to look at skinheads and punk rockers and maybe turn away from them, but they’re good people and they all turn up well for charities.”

The event will take place at The Green Room, on Duke Street, from 1pm until late, on Saturday, September 19.

Tickets cost £12 and will be available at the door, or can be booked in advance by calling Brian on 07551182850 or his son Craig on 07745 965863.
