BARNARD Castle was brought to life with music on Saturday (July 25) as the town held its third annual buskers’ day.

Six acts entertained shoppers and residents alike with their musical talents throughout the day as they performed at Scar Top, on Galgate.

Darren Banner, Kev Pattison, Will Kirton, Joshua Greenwell, three members of Kerosene and Harry King all took to the ‘stage’ as part of the town council’s summer programme.

Barnard Castle Town Council Clerk, Michael King, said: “Everyone was keen to get involved and to come and contribute and as well as performing on Scar Top, two or three of the acts busked at other places.

“We would like to build it into something that people are drawn into and want to participate in - it’s about trying to get people to come sample it and get involved.”

He added: “It’s nice and just encourages local acts to have an opportunity to play to an audience in the open air – it’s a good bit of fun.

“The acts really enjoyed themselves and appreciated the audience.”

The event was supported by The Hub and Richard Robinson who helped with both the PA system and a generator for the event.

The next event, a picnic at Scar Top, will be held on Saturday, August 1, and feature the Durham Constabulary Brass Band.
