A POPULAR toy brand has announced that two North Yorkshire towns have been shortlisted to be twinned with the fictitious village of Sylvania.

Masham and Staithes are both in the running to be paired with the picturesque village, home to the Sylvanian Families which turns 30 this year. The toy firm is asking people to vote for the place they would like to be the winner.

The winning village’s local primary school will receive 30 Sylvanian Families products, a year’s free membership to the Sylvanian Families Premium Fan Club for its pupils, as well as an additional £500 worth of toys to sell at its village fete to raise money for the school.

The parish council will also be presented with a sign reading “Twinned with Sylvania” at a twinning ceremony complete, with a visit from the iconic Sylvanian Families characters.

To vote for one of the villages visit the official Sylvanian Families Facebook page, http://woobox.com/cixsw4. Voting closes Saturday, August 1 and the winning village will be announced in September.
