POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist and his pillion passenger were killed in a collision with a car near Low Worsall, Yarm.

The incident occurred at around 12.40pm on Saturday on the B1264, around one-and-a-half miles south of Low Worsall.

Police said a blue and white Suzuki motorbike which was travelling from Yarm towards Great Smeaton collided with a blue Ford Focus travelling in the opposite direction.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 47-year-old man from Billingham, and his passenger, a 51-year-old woman also from Billingham, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Their families have been informed, however North Yorkshire Police said they were not yet in a position to identify the pair.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a 37-year-old man from Middlesbrough, suffered minor injuries in the collision. He was treated at James Cook Hospital before being discharged.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to the incident to contact them with information.
