CONNOR BEASLEY is expected to remain in the Royal Stoke University Hospital for at least the next week as he continues to recover from injuries sustained in a fall at Wolverhampton on Tuesday.

The rider, who is from Spennymoor and one of the stable jockeys at Michael Dods' Denton Hall yard, suffered a fractured skull and spine as well as damage to his neck when his mount, Cumbrianna, fell over two furlongs from home in a six-furlong handicap at Dunstall Park.

Beasley underwent surgery on his skull injury on Tuesday night and was moved out of intensive care on Thursday.

A statement issued on behalf of the rider's family by the Injured Jockeys Fund read: "Following his fall at Wolverhampton racecourse last Tuesday, jockey Connor Beasley remains in the Royal Stoke University Hospital, Staffordshire. He is out of intensive care, is stable and being kept comfortable with medication.

"In the fall, Connor fractured his skull and spine and suffered a neck injury. He had an operation on his skull and plates have been inserted. This fracture had caused a clot to his brain which has been removed.
He also had successful plastic surgery to repair damage to his ear.

"It is hoped that his spine and neck injury will heal without further surgery. He is likely to remain in the Royal Stoke University Hospital for the next seven to ten days as his treatment and rehabilitation continues.

"Connor's mother, Sue, and his fiancee, Carla, are with Connor and would like to express their extreme gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received from Connor's weighing room colleagues and the racing community at large."
