A GYPSY folk and roll band are set to top the bill at a two-day family-oriented festival in a national park.

Holy Moly and The Crackers, whose influences range from Woody Guthrie to Romani music, will kick-off ParkFest with a sparkling outdoor gig at the North York Moors National Park Centre at Danby on Saturday, July 25, at 6pm.

The following day there will be a range of activities at the centre, from 11am to 4pm, including coastal crafts, foraging, printing from nature and pottery demonstrations.

Food-related workshops will include presentations by Whitby and District Beekeepers’ Association, pasta-making sessions with Arches Cookery School and even opportunities to milk a cow.

Other activities will include mini-bike skills trail, bushcraft, archery and geo-caching.

Park Fest will also feature wildlife and conservation activities with photographer Steve Race from Yorkshire Coast Nature, The British Falconers’ Club, The Hawk and Owl Trust, sheep shearing and the national park’s rangers and volunteers.

Entry to the fun day is free, but some activities may incur a small charge.
