RAF bosses have paid tribute to a mechanical transport driver who has retired after nearly half a century of service.

RAF Leeming staff gathered to honour Brian Gordon, who joined the Royal Air Force in 1967 at the aged 17 and served for 22 years in a variety of places including Cottesmore, Cyprus, Shape, St Athan, St Mawgan and finally completing his service and settling at the North Yorkshire base.

After joining the Ministry of Defence civil service in 1990 as a motor transport driver, Mr Gordon was appointed shift supervisor at the base.

Station Commander, Group Captain David Bradshaw presented Mr Gordon with leaving gifts, including a framed picture of a hawk jet.

Warrant Officer Brian McCracken said:” All of us in motor transport and Logistics Squadron wish Brian all the best, he was a pleasure to work with and fully deserves a well earned rest, we hope he enjoys his retirement.”
